Ok, being as I have just been informed that over 70% of my friends do NOT falll into the category of people who would vote for our present government again, but being as I'm SURE I respect the opinion of mre than 70% of my friends ... lets conduct a bit of a rational poll. Those of you who would relelect our present leadership, tell me WHY. Likewise, those of you who would not, say why. Hey, news flash ... I honestly don't know next time ... SO ... convince me. Really. Convince me. give me either a reason to re-elect out present executive or a reason to go the other way. I mean a solid, provable, reason either way ... so if you are just going to regurgitate Beck or Obermann then you can sve your breath.

Ok, look. I'm not TRYING to offend anyone. At the same time, I'm not trying NOT to offend anyone.
If you do not at least work WITH people you can learn from in the drilling business; shut the hell up about the BP spill.
Quite simply, it is almost 100% likely that you (yes, YOU) bear some indirect resonsibility for this mess. Drilling for oil is dangerous work. The men who do it know this, and are compensated accordingly in my opinion. HOWEVER ... they do this because the rest of us cannot break our addiction to petroleum.
If you drive more than 150 miles a month, for whatever reason, shut up. If you do not recycle 80%+ of your plastic in a given month, shut up. If you have and electric bill over $100 a month and cannot be sure that your power is generated by a means other than oil, SHUT THE HELL UP!!
Yes, BP fucked up. Yes, Transocean fucked up. Yes, drilling for oil bears risks. In fact, drilling for oil bears risks we should all find unacceptable. How many of us sacrifice ANY part of our lifestyle in order to reduce these risks? Almost none of us.
So ... if you aren't actively curtailing your petroleum consumption and object to $7.00 a gallon gas, SHUT THE HELL UP!! If you do not actually KNOW what goes into oil exploration and drilling, SHUT THE HELL UP!! If you are not willing to live in a 400 square foot space, bus to work, and get your electric bill under $100 a month, SHUT THE HELL UP!!
Unless you have managed to fit yourself into this mold, YOU are part of the reason BP was drilling a well 5,000 feet below the surface of the gulf. You are the reason that they, and everyone else, will keep doing so in the future.
You can have your comforts, or you can have a clean environment for your children. You cannot have both.
If I offend anyone, too bad. THIS is the reality we have all made for ourselves by ignoring the long-term effects of our lifestyles. We have no one to blame but ourselves and our parents.
Reform now, as a culture and society, or condemn our decendants (YOUR decendants ... I have no children) to pay for our lack of foresight. Your call, ALL of you. No one person can make a difference, true ... but if enough people change their ways, the future will be more manageable.
In the meantime, if you will not change your ways ... SHUT THE HELL UP!!

New Lair
The low-down on the new Lair of Dave, as it were. It is a small (very) garage apartment in the north Heights area. It has no bathtub and no dishwasher, but does come with about 200 square feet of garage storage space and a washer and dryer dedicated to the unit. My new landlords are buddies of mine, making this arrangement both easy to get into and fun to be in. Summer weekends see “white trash barbecue” events, complete with inflatable pool. I have the use of the patio and the various amenities thereof. These include TV, stereo, elliptical, and dartboard.
The price and amenities simply cannot be beat. I only pay rent and electric, everything else is covered. Free satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, and a window AC unit are all included. The monthly total living expenses should come in under $700 per month, even at the height of summer. This means that I do not need to worry too much about my job status, since I can pay this on unemployment and still have leftovers for food and smokes and such.
I have a bus stop only 2 blocks away, and a full transit center about 2 blocks further. At least one route runs there as late as 10pm, making my commutes and transportation issues manageable. The area is safe enough to make that a non-issue and this location should cut almost an hour from my commute each way.
I need to restock my kitchen gear and buy pretty much all new furniture. Since I expect very little company however, I am not concerned with impressing anyone and will probably decorate in a bohemian “early salvation army” style. I can even go back to a double bed and save a few precious inches with no discomfort. In all; I have a place I can easily afford, great neighbors, and only the space I need without tempting me to overcomplicate my life.

Art Rock Morning:
My musical selections for the day seems to be wandering down a path that is trying to illustrate something, but I can't quite get the perspective to see it.
It began with the Pixies, Sonic Youth, and the Pretenders. Guided by a mood I am unable to define, it has wandered into Warren Zevon, Velvet Underground, and Elvis Costello territory.
On the surface it seems to be part of some profound pattern. In this way, a day's music can be much like life itself. We all feel like it should mean something, but none of us seem to be very good at getting a handle on it.

Cogito, ergo sum rectus.
No, I am not going to say "let there be light". No, the latin is not related to anal intercourse. It translates roughly to "I think, therefore I am right".
My focus in this particular forum is going to be on the things you are supposed to avoid speaking about in polite company. Politics, religion, philosophy, sex, relationships, and the like make for the most heated debates, so are likely going to be topping my list of subjects. I seems unlikely that I would avoid commentary on current events, music, movies, books, television and the like, so I probably will not avoid those topics either.. The entertainment reviews and (hopefully) rare moments of just complaining about something that sucks will serve to fill the gaps between those times when I have something to make declarative statements about.
Feel free to comment, disagree, or argue all you like. Be warned that a debate in the comments is intended to be uncensored and potentially politically incorrect by default. I would like to encourage a completely honest and uninhibited discussion. I do expect any opinion expressed by someone else to be logically consistent, based upon explainable reason, and able to be defended by some means other than just stating that it is your belief. If your only tactic in a discussion is to try to shout that your nonsense is better than mine because you are shouting louder than I am, then you are indulging in the same type of behavior that has made "journalism" such an absolute waste of time to watch or read. The facts should never take a backseat to fervor when making a point.
I do ask that everyone make an effort not to be insulting just for the sake of irritating someone, there should be enough in the way of opinions that you hate to make it unnecessary to attack someone for any other reasons. That being said, consider the madhouse open. I will probably post somewhat irregularly. Consider timing and topic to be subject to the whims of my somewhat addled mind, and that sort of thing will not bother you much.
